What are Fungal Diseases?
Fungal diseases are infectious diseases that occur on the skin, nails or scalp. For the treatment of fungal diseases, the type and severity of the fungus should be determined first. In this article, we will give information about the causes, symptoms and treatment methods of fungal diseases.
Symptoms of Fungal Diseases
- If there is fungus on the skin, there may be flaking, redness, itching and red rashes on the skin.
- If there is fungus on the nail, there may be color changes such as thickening, decay or yellowing on the nail.
- If there is fungus on the hair, there may be symptoms such as hair loss, discharge or crusting.
Causes of Fungal Diseases
Fungal diseases are caused by infectious microorganisms called fungi, which originate from soil, animals or humans. Fungi feed on and break down a protein called keratin on the skin and cause disease. The most common types of fungi that cause fungal diseases are dermatophytes and candida.
Treatment of Fungal Diseases

- Systemic drugs: These are drugs that are taken orally in forms such as tablet, capsule. They reach the area where the fungus is located through the blood and kill the fungus.
Ways to Prevent Fungal Diseases
- Keep the fungal area dry and away from moisture
- Follow hygiene rules and do not share personal items
- Do not wear sweaty or wet clothes for a long time and change them
- To prevent foot fungus, wear cotton socks, ventilate shoes frequently and wear slippers in common areas
- To prevent hair fungus, wash hair frequently, do not use hair dryer and do not use other people’s hair brush, comb, hat etc.
