What is Botox?
Botox is a treatment method used to reduce wrinkles on the skin. Botox is done by injecting a substance called botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve cells from stimulating the muscles, causing them to relax. This way, the appearance of wrinkles on the skin decreases.
Botox can be used for both aesthetic and medical purposes. Aesthetic Botox is used to eliminate facial expression lines, frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and upper lip wrinkles. Medical Botox is used to treat conditions such as excessive sweating, migraine, blepharospasm (eyelid twitching), strabismus (crossed eyes), and masseter hypertrophy (jaw muscle enlargement).
How Is Botox Done?
Botox is injected into the wrinkled area with a thin needle. The injection process takes about 10-15 minutes and does not require local anesthesia. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles, so the facial expression does not change after the injection. The effect of Botox starts within 3-5 days and lasts for 3-6 months. Botox needs to be repeated at regular intervals to maintain its effect.
Who Can Have Botox?
Botox can be done to anyone who is over 18 and healthy. However, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with allergies, bleeding disorders, muscle diseases, infections, and those who use certain medications should not have Botox. It is important to consult your doctor and inform them of your health condition before having Botox.
Are There Any Side Effects of Botox?
Botox is a safe and effective treatment method when applied correctly. However, some people may rarely experience side effects. These include redness, bruising, swelling, pain, itching, infection, headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms, eyelid drooping, facial asymmetry, allergic reactions, and breathing difficulties. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if severe or prolonged side effects occur, you should see a doctor immediately.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
Botox prices vary depending on the area to be treated, the dose to be used, the doctor’s experience, and the clinic choice. You need to talk to your doctor and have an examination to get accurate information about Botox prices. Botox prices are usually determined per session.
