How is Root Canal Treatment Done in Turkey?
Root canal treatment is an endodontic procedure that is applied when the living tissue inside the tooth (pulp) is infected or damaged. The pulp contains blood vessels and nerves that provide nourishment and sensation to the tooth. When the pulp is damaged, symptoms such as toothache, sensitivity, swelling and inflammation may occur. In this case, the pulp must be completely removed and the root canal of the tooth must be cleaned and filled. Otherwise, the infection may spread and the tooth may be lost.
Root canal treatment is a common treatment performed by dentists in Turkey. The treatment process works as follows:
- The dentist evaluates the condition of the tooth by clinical examination and x-ray. He or she decides whether treatment is needed or not.
- The dentist applies local anesthesia to prevent pain during the treatment. He or she places a rubber barrier around the tooth. This isolates the tooth and prevents the infection from spreading.
- The dentist makes a small hole in the top of the tooth. Through this hole, he or she uses thin tools to remove the pulp, clean and shape the canal. The canal is filled with a special material. This material hardens and protects the tooth from infection.
- The dentist closes the hole with a temporary filling. After the treatment is completed, the dentist makes a permanent filling or crown. This improves the appearance and function of the tooth.
What to Expect After Root Canal Treatment?
After root canal treatment, some precautions should be taken for the healing of the tooth. These are:
- After the treatment, there may be mild pain or sensitivity in the tooth for the first few days. This is normal and can be controlled with prescription or over-the-counter painkillers. However, if the pain is severe or prolonged, the dentist should be consulted.
- After the treatment, excessive pressure should not be applied to the tooth for the first few days. Movements such as chewing, biting, hitting or grinding should be avoided. If possible, the opposite side of the treated tooth should be used.
- After the treatment, the cleanliness of the tooth should be taken care of for the first few days. Oral care routines such as brushing, flossing and rinsing should be continued. However, the treated tooth should not be interfered with too hard or too deep.
- After the treatment, foods that may damage the tooth such as hot, cold, acidic, sugary or hard foods should be avoided for the first few days. Instead, soft, warm and neutral foods should be preferred.
What are the Benefits of Root Canal Treatment?
The biggest benefit of root canal treatment is saving the tooth. Tooth extraction may harm the other teeth and the jaw bone. Also, an artificial tooth may need to be placed in place of the extracted tooth. This is both costly and time-consuming process. With root canal treatment, you can preserve your natural tooth and improve your dental health.
